$150.00

Registration currently open only to HMWG members.

This will be an in-person workshop in the Albany area, exact location TBD. Workshop dates are Thu, May 8; Fri, May 9 and Sat, May 10, 2025. Class times are expected to be 9-4 pm each day, with arrival early on Thu to set up. Note that this overlaps with Mother’s Day weekend.

Cost: We anticipate a minimum workshop fee of $200/student and potentially as high as $325/student if we do not fill the class. Additional costs include a materials fee of $5 for printed handouts and design templates, collected by instructor at workshop. Students will supply their own yarn following instructor's recommendations. This workshop is eligible for HMWG Scholarship support - please apply with the Scholarship committee if interested.

The workshop costs will depend on # of students as well as final expenses. We will run the workshop with a minimum of 10 students and a maximum of 15 students. The final costs will not be known until close to the workshop date and potentially after the workshop as these include travel expenses and incidentals for the instructor.

You will be required to make a second payment prior to the workshop and potentially a small third payment after the workshop. If you register and cannot attend, you may transfer your registration to someone else, but no refunds will be made.

Please complete the form and pay your deposit of $150. If you do not receive a receipt email, your registration did NOT go through.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Megan MacBride at mmacbride@gmail.com. Once you register, you will receive instructions from the instructor on how to prepare for the workshop.

Intellectual property notice: All workshop materials are property of the instructor. You may save copies of workshop materials such as handouts for your personal, non-commercial use. Do NOT distribute class materials.

Workshop description: Transparency Weaving

Transparency weaving combines a sheer ground cloth with simple or intricate inlay that is like tapestry. This workshop will appeal to tapestry weavers who want to use their skills in a new way, as well as to floor/table loom weavers who want to weave decorative wall hangings and window coverings. The workshop focuses on inlay techniques for creating shapes from simple lines to intricate shapes, as well as techniques to overlap inlay patterns to create depth. We will finish up with suggestions on how to mount and display your work.

Level: Students should be able to warp their loom and have general weaving knowledge. No special experience in transparency weaving or tapestry is required.

Equipment: any 4+-shaft or 8-shaft table or floor loom warped according to instructions. The use of rigid heddle looms is discouraged because of tension problems when weaving with the linen warp.
