PARTICIPATING WEAVERS
Sandy Lommen, one-of-a-kind Handwovens
I live on a very small farm in Wynantskill. My husband and I moved here 46 years ago, built our house by ourselves and raised goats, then sheep. I bought a loom. I loved everything about the process: designing and making the warp, threading the loom, weaving the cloth. Quickly I decided that I wanted to focus on clothing. When my husband was very well turned out in handwovens, I needed to sell or quit. So weaving became my full-time job and continues to be for the past 20 years. Mostly I make women’s jackets and coats in all natural yarns. Prices are usually from $250 - $450. This year I have also woven a few linen towels.

Handwovens by Roy
Roy retired four years ago from his medical practice, and delved right into weaving, thanks to his wife having already indoctrinating him (so he could help her when four hands were needed.) He finds the concentration needed to create a woven item, especially one with a complex pattern, helps induce a state of relaxation that is almost meditative. He learned rug weaving from the second generation guru, Jason Collingwood. To this, Roy added learning to make blankets, scarves for men and women, shawls, towels and placemats.
He finds he can listen to his favorite podcasts or music while throwing his shuttle back and forth (only rarely making a mistake).
SCARVES, AFGHANS, BLANKETS, BABY BLANKETS, RUGS, TOWELS, SHAWLS
Roy is posting items for sale on Instagram. To purchase an item, contact Roy via email at rfruiterman@gmail.com or via Instagram direct message. Roy will ship items at no cost (within the US) to the buyer. Personal checks accepted. Roy is able to arrange in-person showings of particular items in front of his house in Colonie/Albany. He suggests the rug be seen in person before purchase.
